July Minutes

Akron Friends Meeting

Meeting with Attention to Business    July 14, 2024

Present:  Leah Holden, Linda Beaty, Janet Dando

After a period of .worshipful silence, Friends agreed to take up the business of the meeting.

1.  Friends had not reviewed the minutes of the May and June meetings so we will bring them up for approval at the August meeting.

2.  Leah presented the treasurer’s report. There has been no activity this month, so the balance remains at $1,846.28. The check we sent to the Akron Interfaith Immigration Advocates (AIIA) has not yet cleared.

3.  Old Business

     A.  Janet sent Leah the AFM calendar for July and August for posting on the website.

     B.  Linda volunteered to select the query for next week’s worship sharing.

4.  New Business

     A.  We’ve been notified that we are to receive bequests from the estates of both Adele Looney and Shirley Parsons.  Adele left us $2,000. We don’t know the amount of Shirley’s gift.  We should begin thinking abouts ways to use this money to honor both women. Leah suggested that we first consider our purpose and priorities as a meeting.

     B. Last week, Susan Gallagher told us that she knows of a local organization that has recently bought a church at 915 North Main Street in Akron. They plan to make space available for community groups. Friends agreed that we are willing to take a look at the building. Susan agreed to set up a meeting.

5.  Announcements

     A. Meals on Wheels of Wadsworth is holding their fundraising dinner on July 24th. Theywill honor Adele Looney’s service to the organization. Friends are invited.

     B.  The program ” Poverty in America Today” will run from 2-4 pm today at Buchtel High School.

Friends returned to silence before the rise of meeting.
